Southern Skies March Must See Observing List Mark Johnston (AKA: AstroSpotter) 2/25/2010 11:30pm An observing list suitable for use with MegaStar 5 and sorted by sections of the sky Arkaroola Location: 139 20 East, 30 18 South This version of the list is taken from the Full list of similar name and the full list below could just be done in about 5 nights by a seasoned observer if one was focused and had a plan such as the one outlined in these documents. Sections of the sky are separated and have a description with the 1st few chars like this Ex: for Early, Mx: for Midnight and Lx: for Late hour observing where x is an arbitrary number more or less sorted by RA with lower numbers 1st RA Also see the March map for very wide naked eye sky with these designations for 9pm and for 2am. See wide charts that have areas circled with same labels like E2 for Early #2 or L1 for Late 1 and these 2 charts have filenames also starting with 'A_Southern_Observing_Plan_MustSee' Also refer to very wide BestOfSouthTelradWideFinder series of charts for many targets here. You may also want to use CaldwellSouthernTelradWideFinder charts for low Southern Caldwell Objects An extensive set of charts that assist this observing plan are located at www.astrospotter.com Extra info on a 3rd line may contain the following: Priorities: SuperHiPrio, HiPrio, MedPrio, LoPrio. SuperHiPrio may be very nice or may be high because of being on assorted lists I want badly The lowest of priority sections say 'Optional' but also have each object rated. Each object Contains the Constellation and some catalog designations as follows: DM600 - Steve Gottlieb's DeepMap 600 objects (that are far south) Caldwell - Southern Caldwell List objects. (All on SuperHiPrio status) SSAL - Southern Skies Astronomical League (All on SuperHiPrio status) SW100 - Astronomy Mag '100 Sky Wonders' from June 17, 2008 (many from also see catagory) S600 - Bambo's Southern Skies 600 list by John Bambury SG200x - Also Steve Gottlieb picks from down south ORs SBigGx - Southern Big Galaxies sorted via MegaStar library search Near the end are some very low objects that are viewable from North but if time permits and skies are good enough may be worthwhile. ====================================================== E1: SMC - Small Magellanic Cloud Area: 35+ targets.
